Overview

Launched in 2013, the Canadian Start-up Visa (SUV) Program is designed for entrepreneurs with innovative ideas who will stimulate the economic growth and requires consequent commitment from a designated organization. This program grants Permanent Residence (PR) from day one. PR is not tied to the success of the business.

Investment options

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the Canada Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program, you must fulfil ONE of the following investment options.

  1. Business incubation: No minimum investment required
  2. Angel investment: Raise CAN$75,000 from an angel investment group, depending on a certain stage of the business
  3. Venture capital fund: Raise CAN$200,000 from a venture capital fund, depending on a certain stage of the business

To be eligible for the Startup Visa Canada Program, one must meet the following minimum requirements :

  • Provide a letter confirming that your business has backing from a Canadian Investor/ designated organization
  • Achieve fluency in English or French to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5.
  • Prove that you are capable of financially supporting yourself and your dependants once you’re in Canada. If you’re moving to Canada alone, you must have disposable funds of CAN$13,310. This increases to CAN$24,733 for a family of four.

Process

Appointment of an authorized representative to submit the application.

Provide proof of language proficiency and other personal documentation.

Obtain a commitment certificate from a designated organization

Submission of the application form, supporting documents and fees.

Typical processing time is within 12 to 30 months

Successful applicants will immediately receive permanent residence status in Canada.
